There is a special way of embracing the territory and the community: spreading its culture, its protagonists and its myths. Dedicated to the great artist Maria Lai, the Divenire Pietra exhibition is the second stage of a story which, since July 2021, has forever linked Jerzu Antichi Poderi to the memory of the famous artist and strengthens the identity of the winery as a Sardinian cultural hub. The installation inaugurated the Cinquesse space which Jerzu Antichi Poderi permanently dedicates to Maria Lai, in collaboration with the Archive and the Foundation named after the artist.
Inspired by the sewn book Maria Pietra and edited by Giulia Brandinelli, Divenire Pietra retraces and evokes not only Lai’s poetic path, but also her personal and cultural growth, entrusted during her youth to Salvatore Cambosu, novelist, professor and mentor of the future artist. It is in fact Cuore mio, the story published by Cambosu in Miele Amaro in 1954, that inspired Lai’s production for the next thirty years. Initially the artist created drawings in pencil and ink on paper, then bread, glazed ceramics and refractory terracottas, and, later, collages of paper and then of fabric, which became famous in 1991 with the exhibition of the sewn book Maria Pietra, which inspired the exhibition, at the Stefania Miscetti Studio in Rome together with the famous sewn sheets.
